RANGIORA CATHOLIC CHURCH.

A gathering took place on Friday in the Rangiora Catholic schoolroom, when a presentation was made to the Rev Father Cooney, on the occasion of his leaving for Ashburton, where he is to replace the Rev Father Bogne, who has been removed to Ross. A capital entertainment was organised by the Rev Father Price, in which, the school children and several ladies ami gentlemen of the parish took part. The programme, which .was well arranged, proved varied and enjoyable, those, contributing being Mrs Proudfopt, / Misses A. and G. Duncan, Moir, M’Kelyey,. A. Powerand Messrs J. Duncan, G. K. Sboriand, J. •Power and W. M’Aleer. During the interval Miss A. Anderson presented the Rev Father Cooney with an illuminated address and Biretta on behalf of the school children. Mr J. Duncan then read an address from the parishioners, and Mr R. Anderson presented a purse of sovereigns; and, on behalf of the ladies of the parish Mesdames Boyd and P. Kennedy presented a travelling rug and Gladstone teg. The Rev Father Cooney on rising to acknowledge the kindness that had prompted the several presentations, was greeted with loud applause. He referred to the constant marks of affection he had received from every member of the congregation ®!nce hje Srrefc came to the parish, and he thanked them for the goodwill they had always -shown to him. He congratulated them on their getting the Rev Father Hyland, a zealous, energetic priest to succeed him; and in conclusion paid a, very high tribute to, the zeal and earnestness of the Rev Father Price, who, he said, had rendered him incalculable assistance during the five - months h© had already spent in the parish. A vote of thanks to Father -Price and those who. had contributed to the programme brought the proceedings to . a close. .. . . .
