WILFUL DAMAGE.
A SAILOR’S METHODS. Yesterday a sailor belonging to the steamer Wakanui deliberately smashed two large plate glass windows in the shop of Mr W. Hildyard, of Canterbury Street, Lyttelton. The man battered the glass in with his fist, and then walked into the shop and suggested that the police should be sent for. When remonstrated with for his act he coolly remarked that he wanted to get rid of his ship, and his only way to achieve that object was by getting into gaol. He said he would wait till the police came, and, in the meantime, asked that he might be supplied with a towel to wipe the blood from his bands. He further volunteered the information that if the inmates of the shop did not think he was likely to get four or six months' imprisonment for his folly he would oblige by smashing the remaining two windows. He quietly accompanied the police to the station. ■’
