The; Whangaroa, wMdh arrived from New Zealand yesterday, sighted the Perthshire at midnight on May 12, four hundred and fifty miles east of Sydney. Captain Cozens boarded her nest day and ascertained that she broke her tail shaft two days out from Sydney. When found she was lying between the tracks of Auckland and Wellington isteamers. The captain wishes to return to Sydney, The vesseFs position was longitude 160 deg 10mm east, latitude 35deg 20min south. She had been drifting backwards and forwards about twenty miles per day, and was bearing-to-wards the eastward when the Whangaroa left. The latter encountered roagbish weather after leaving her. All aboard were well.

The tug Champion left last night to search for the disabled steamer.

SYDNEY, May 21,

Two more tugs have been sent in search of the Perthshire. The Mokoia, which sailed on Saturday, will keep a look-out.

Strong westerly winds are blowing, and it is expected that the disabled vessel will drift towards New Zealand. The shaft broke in the tube, and it was impossible to mend it, hut it was secured. The steamer failed to make any progress under sail.

Before the proceedings were-commenced at the Canterbury Cricket Association’s gathering on Saturday evening, Mr W. H. WynnWilliams, the chairman, announced' that the Perthshire bad been sighted, and at his suggestion cheers were given for the captain crew The news that the missing liner Perthshire bad been sighted off the New South Wales coast was received in Lyttelton on Saturday evening with great -satisfaction.
