PARISH MEETINGS

NEW BRIGHTON. The annual meeting of the parishioners of the Beach Church, New Brighton, was held on April 21. The Rev F. R. Inwood was in the chair. The Vicar reported that the work of the church had been generally satisfactory. The statement of accounts showed that the receipts from offertories and subscriptions had been much the same as last year, and that there was a small credit balance. Votes of thanks wore passed to the lay readers, organist and choir, Sunday school teachers, and all church workers. Messrs Purchas and Winny were re-elected churchwardens, and the following were elected vestrymen Messrs Evans, Barnes, Slater’, Hawker, Bargrove and Bishop. It was stated that Mr C. H. Winny had been elected synodsxnan for the district of New Brighton. Mr Winny notified that the sum of £9B 8s Id had been collected towards the New Church Building Fund. On the motion of Mr Purchas, it was resolved that women should bo allowed to vote at parish meetings.

ST JOHN THE BAPTIST, RANGIOEA. The annual meeting of the parishioners of the Church of St John the Baptist, Rangiora, was held on April 17. There was a good attendance, and the vicar, the Rev F. P. Fendall, presided. He staled in his report that the offertories did not amount to so much as those of the previous year by £9 6s Id; also, that the Parochial Association had been a great help in connection with church matters. He thanked the parishioners for their kindness and assistance to him. Mr Palmer-Chapman, parishioners’ warden, reported that subscriptions to the amount of £62 had been received, and that all the rents but one had been paid. Mr G. H. N. Helmore read the balance-sheet, which showed the receipts to have been —Church account £34017s sc), expenditure £348 17s sd, leaving a debit balance of £B. The cemetery account showed a credit balance of £7 5 2s 4d, and the school account a debit balance of £3O 3s 4d. There was a credit balance in connection with the recent annual fete and gift auction of £3O. The report and balance-sheet were adopted, Mr G. 11. N. Helmore was again chosen vicar’s warden, and Mr PalmerChapman parishioners’ warden. The following were elected vestrymen Messrs A. Blackett, H. Jones, E. W. Relph, C. Cunningham, J. M’Harg, C. d’Auvergne and F, Gulliver. Mr W. Blackett was reelected auditor, Mr G. H. hi. Helmore, as returning-officer in the matter of the election of a synodsman, reported the election of Mr C. E. Bevan-Browu. It was resolved —“ That a committee be appointed te canvass for subscriptions, to extend for a period of three or four years, for a separate fund for the purpose of re-roofing the church.” The following were elected; — Messrs W. Buss, Palmer-Chapman and G. H. N. Helmore. Votes of thanks were passed to the outgoing vestry, the choir, and all those who had assisted in carrying on the work of the church during the past year. Refreshments were handed round during the meeting.
