THE LAND BOARD.
TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, —Having seen a letter in your issue of April 17, commenting on the Canterbury, Land Board and certain Crown land adjoining Sir G. Clifford’s Stonyburst Estate, I heartily endorse every word of it. T have known of people who have applied for this' land years ago to settle upon, but they have: always been put off with some yarn or other by way of how not to do it, and Sit G. Clifford still continues in undisturbed! possession of it, surrounded by bis already too large estate. Really' it is ’but little: more than a farce, when we have Liberal laws made, to keep the old Conservative bodies in power to administer them. The sooner the Canterbury Land Board is com-; posed of men who are in sympathy with' the Liberal legislation the more apparent will he the effect of such legislation. Its meetings used to be open to the public; but they are not now, and it sends rte own reports to the papers. Hoping the ball will be kept rolling,—l am, etc., OBSERVER.
