MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.

The annual general meeting of the St John’s Literary Association was held on Tuesday evening in the schoolroom, find there whs a large attendance. The balance - sheet was read and adopted, and most of the officers of last year were re-elected. The rules of the Society were discussed and some of them altered. It was decided to hold the meetings on alternate Tuesdays, and to open the session on May 2 with a “ social.” Mr R. J._ Hobbs was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for the able manner in which he had fulfilled his duties as secretary during the past year. A meeting of Court Thistle of the Forest of Foresters, was held on Tuesday evening at the Druids’ Hall, Sydenham. C.R., Bro H. G. Ward, was in the chair, and there was a largo attendance of members. The Woodwards reported two members on the sick fund. Bro Marks, delegate to the district meeting, gave a report of the business done at the half-yearly meeting. Two candidates were proposed for membership. The receipts for the evening were j£42 10s 9d.
