The report of the Royal Commission on Charities recommends that no further Government aid should be given to a number of subsidised charitable institutions other than hospitals, and the conoentraition fof ■ the funds. Government supervision, it is considered, will give much Letter results. It is recommended that as soon as local government is established throughout the colony, the expenditure for outdoor relief should be thrown entirely on the local rates. . SUPPOSED MURDER. MELBOURNE, April 19. The body of an old man named Butler was found in a sack at Mansfield. The remains were mutilated and murder is suspected. | SEVEN YEARS’ PENAL SERVITUDE. BRISBANE, April 19. Wilson, who stands remanded in connection with the murder of the boy Hill, at Oxley, has been found guilty of attempting to commit an unnatural offence at Ipswich, and sentenced ,to seven years’ penal servitude.
