Mails close for the following places as under, subject to the necessary alterations;FRIDAY, JAN. 6. For Dunedin and Invercargill, per Tarawera, at 1.43 p.m.; late fee letters, 2 p.m.; guard’s van, 2.45 p.m. train. For Northern Ports and Westport, also Australian Colonies (via Wellington), per Monowai, at 3 p.m.; late fee letters, 3.15 p.m.; guard’s van, 4 p.m. Duo Sydney Jan. 12. r SATURDAY, JAN 7. For South America, also Uqited Kingdom and Continent of Europe, specially marked via Monto Video, per Matatua, at 10 a.m.; late fee letters, 10.15 a.m.; guard's van, 10.55 a.m. train. For Dunedin and Invercargill, Australasian Colonies (via Bluff), Ceylon, India, China, etc., also United Kingdom and Continent of Europe, for correspondence, specially addressed via Suez, per Waihora, to connect with Tarawera, at 3 p.m.; Into fee letters, 3.15 p.m.; guard’s van, 4 p.m. train. Due Melbourne Jan. 16, London Feb. 19. For Northern Ports and Westport, also Australian Colonics (via Wellington, to connect with Miowera, due Sydney Jan. 14), per Rotomahana, at 7.45 p.m.; late fee letters, 8 p.m.; guard’s van, 9.15 p.m. train.
ALTERATION IN LOCAL MAILS. Prom Jan. 2 mails will be closed at 3.45 p.m., instead of 3 p.m., for Prebbleton,Lincoln, Springston, Biandvlllo, Doylestou, Leeston and South bridge. Mails from ail post offices on the Ashburton, Whitecliffs, Springfield and Methvcn railway lines will reach Christchurch at 6.30 p.m., and mails from the Southbridgo lino will arrive at 6.40 p.m. ’ The letter-box has been removed from the corner of Clyde Road and Fendalton Road to the receiving office at Braco (Mr Wolfrey’s), about two chains distant. On Jan. 2 a receiving office will bo opened at Braco (at Mr Wolfrey’s residence), and a post office will be opened at Hundalee. Mails for Norfolk Island, per Croydon Lass, dose at Auckland on Jan. 7, at IX a.m. Mails for South Africa leave Melbourne on In 11 . 11 Mails by the direct steamer Archtor close at Wellington to-day, at 1 p.m. B.
