THE VOLUNTEERS.

The Kaiapoi Cadets have a team which has been carefully trained for the physical drill competition at the Dunedin military tournament. As cadets are not sworn in as volunteers, there seems to bo a doubt as to the issue of railway passes in this instance, but it is hoped that the difficulty will be surmounted.

A parade of the First Canterbury Battalion was held at the drill-shed last night, when Colonel Francis was in command, assisted by Major Day. Battalion exercises were gone through under Captains Creswell and Charlewood and Lieutenant Smith. The parade state was as follows City Guards, {Captain Creswell, 52; Christ’s College Rifles, Lieutenant Smith, 30; City Rifles, Lieutenant Louisson, 47; Imperial Rifles, Captain Charlewood, 52; Cycle Corps, Lieutenant Finnis, 19; Garrison Band, Sergeant Gibbs, 24; total, 224.
