SWIMMING.

United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, Nov. 28. J. H. Derbyshire swam 100yds at Manchester in 61 l-ssec.

The East Christchurch Club held a 75yds handicap last evening, in the presence of a large number of spectators. The final heat, which was won by H. Truscott, was one of the finest races ever -witnessed in the bath. The following are the results :

First heat: H. Williams 6sec and G. N. O rin an fly 4 sen dead heal, 1. P. Bullivant 143<H5 and A. Roberts 13sec also started. Time —62« cc. Second heat: H. Trwscott Isec, 1; 0. Ormandy 9sec, 2. F. Drake Ssec and C. Allard 21sco also started. Time —6(lsec. Third heat: F. Stokes scr, 1; T. Edwards Isec, 2. F. Truscott Isec. and W. Jones lOsec also started. Time—sl 3-ssec. Final heat: H. Truscott Isec, 1; F. Stokes scr, 2; G. N. Ormandy and IT. Williams dead heat, 3. Time—--57 2-Ssoc.

A meeting of the committee of the Lyttelton Swimming Club was hold on Monday evening ; present—Messrs Cleary, Mazey, Rich (2), Sutton, Brown, Taylor and Agar. The programme for the New Year’s Day swimming sports was arranged, including a 220yds provincial l championship, four interclub events and one club race. A relay of six members was chosen to represent the club at the Association’s carnival. It was decided that a-chib ra.es should be hold on Dec. 12, the distance to be 75yds. The swimming gala to be held on Dec. 10 will probably be one of the most successful gatherings of swimmers held hers for some time. Great interest, is being taken in the meeting of H. R. Rich, the quartermile champion of New Zealand, and A. B. Truscott, the 100yds champion of New Zealand, and the exhibition ,of swimming by the two champions will be one of the attractions of the meeting. A meeting of the combined executive will be held this evening, to make further arrangements for carrying out the programme.
