REPORTED MURDER.
A FALSE ALARM. On Saturday afternoon the city was startled by a rumour that a woman had been murdered in a shop nearly opposite O.okprV Hotel. Agonised screams had been and some of the more impulsive spectators were almost sure that they had heard the word “ Migdir” called put. TVo policemen were soon onl%Ascene, aud effected an entrance into the house, < while two more arrived shortly afterwards, in consequence pi a telephone message. The premises weep thoroughly searched, and found to b.e empty, A large crowd had in the meantime assem(bled, and the wildest speculations, as to the supposed murder were indulged in. A theory advanced was that gome. pi#atical joker, who was a ventriloquist, had “thrown” the screams from the other side of the road ; but the explanation which seemed most probable was that twjo quarrelsome cats of more than ordinary vocal powers had created the whole sensation.
