CHRISTCHURCH. Friday, August 12. (Before Mr J. "Forrester, J.P., and Air W. " Fendall, J.P.) Drunkenness. —Four first- offenders were charged with drunkenness. One, who did not answer to his bail, was fined 10s and ’costs, in default forty-eight hours. —Another asked to be dealt with, leniently, as he had work in the country to go to. On the understanding that he left the town immediately, the Bench convicted and discharged him.—Of the other two, one was convicted and discharged, and the other was fined 5s and costs, with the usual alternative Assault. —James Taylor was charged with having on July 20, at Sydenham, assaulted William Chegwin, by striking him in the face. Defendant pleaded guilty .and was fined 5s and costs 6s. Non-attendance at School. —For not sending their children regularly to school, Mrs Laurence, G. Hill, J. Dermott and J. Howard were each fined 2s.
