FIRE.

The Waimate Drillshed was burned to the ground on Saturday afternoon. It is supposed that it caught fire through some embers being left alight by one of a number of young men who stay there, and as the building was nearly forty years old, and was built wholly of wood, it was impossible for the fire brigade, who turned 0 it promptly, to do more than put out the embers. There was a high wind blowing at t-be time, and it was only by great exi rt'ons that the fire was prevented from spiea ng. All the property of the Waimato Rifles, including uniforms and ammunition, as well as instruments and music belonging to the Waimate Brass Band, wore saved.
