AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

The Council of the" New Zealand Amateur Athletic ’Association met at the Occidental Hotel yesterday evening; ..present-—Messrs -I. F. Grierson (South Canterbury),, chairman, H. Frost (Hawke’s Bay), T. D. Condell (S’outh Canterbury), J. H. Wood-and W. l onks (Auckland), F. Johnston (Canterbury), D; P. Gully (Nelson), P. Scbg (Hawke’s Bay), W.Bergh (Hardware), H. S. Batchelor (vVaikato), J. C. Cusack (Canterbury), N. L. Macbeth, (Dunedin), C. F. Smith (Canterbury), L. W; Harley (Wellington), and Dr, Jennings (North Shore).-, » ’ Permits as follows were granted Greymouth Caledonian Society,. Ancient Order,of Foresters, Thames, Cook’s Gardens, Wanganui, Kaiapoi Friendly Society and Wellington College. The following correspondence was dealt ■with :—From the Nelson Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club, stating that athletes had been separated from .cyclists on the’club books, and that it was impossible to form a new club until the annual meeting in June, and also asking for a permit for amateur races on May 4. After a long discussion the following resolution, proposed by Mr Johnston and seconded by Mr Wood, was carried : *' That permission be granted for the amateur races to be held under New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association rules, subject to full progiamme being approved by the Permit Committee, such races not to be open to, ipemhers of the Nelson Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club.” The Secretary was instructed to telegraph the above, and to point out that all members of the club wishing to compete must send in then- resignation from that club and compete as unattached riders.' From the New Zealand Cyclists’ Alliance, stating that the undermentioned clubs had seceded from the Alliance and had forfeited all rights and privileges under the Alliance, and were therefore ineligible to hold amateur cycling races. The following clubs were referred to :—Dunedin Cycling Club, Otago Cycling Club, Balclutha Cycling Club,,Gore Cycling Club, Middlemarch Cycling Club, VV yndham Cycling Club, West Taieri Cycling Club, Invercargill Cycling Club, Nelson Amateur Athletic and .Cycling Club, Wanderers’ Cycling Club, papier, Roxburgh Cycling Club and Mataura Cycling Club. ' The letter was received; • From the same, stating that the Wanganui Aftnateur Athletic and Cycling Club had seceded from the Alliance, and notifying the Association of the suspension of that club. The letter was received. It was resolved, oh the motion of Mr ■Batchelor, seconded by Dr Jennings, that a letter similar to the telegram sent'to Nelson should be forwarded to Wanganui, and that the secretary of the Association should be instiucted to arrange with the secretary of the Cyclists’ Alliance for the removal of disqualification from the running members of clubs under suspension. The following reinstatements wera passed : —A. L. Hempton (Marten), F. R. Hotop (Queenstown), E. H. Grieger (Waitotara), O. Green (Nelson), C. A. Wright (Dnnsandel) and R. Pyke (Auckland). Mr H. Frost, delegate for Hawke’s Bay, gave notice of motion for the alteration of Rule 12. The proposed alteration, if carried, will have the effect of striking out all bodies which are not purely athletic from union with the Association. The meeting'then terminated.
