MARINE ENGINEERS.
[Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, April 19. Mr Seddon to-day made the presentation of badges to members of the Institute of Marine Engineers. He referred to the credit dye to the engineers for the manner in which they carried out their duties, and regretted that parents did not have their children taught trades instead of making them clerks. He had sprung from the ranks of the! engineers, and was proud of it. To him it was pleasing to see such confidence existing between owners, inspectors, chief engineers and the general public, and' he trusted it would long continue!. The Premier added that he desired to see the Institute 'bestow badges only on those deserving them from meritorious work, and in this way they would bo appreciated at their proper worth, He. said that he -would like to see land engineers federated in the same way as the marine . engineers, and he referred to the cordial manner in which he had been received as the representative of the colonial -engineers, by the engineers in England.
