AVON ROAD BOARD.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I am sure that my countryman, Mr Charles Burgess, though naturally of a retiring disposition, will only ho too glad to have the annual meeting of the Avon Board, over which he has so long and, notwithstanding what the anonymous scribblers may write to the contrary, I will say, so honourably presided, adjourned to the Town Hall, Papanui, on Monday week, so that the large section of ratepayers who have so long accorded him their unhesitating support, may hear from his own lips the able defence, which I am sure he will make, not only of his individual actions, but the pure and unselfish motives which have actuated the gentlemen who have acted so harmoniously with him on the Board, more especially during the past year. I hope, therefore, my friend, putting aside personal predelictions, will urge his Board and those who attend at the : Road Board Office, at noon, on May 2, to at once adjourn.—l am, &c., GRIFFITH BEDGELERT JONES.
