INVEECAEGILL, April 18. James M’Eenzie, aged thirty-eight, while hauling logs out of the bush at Colao Bay with an engine, met with a fatal accident. The cant hook gave way and flew forward, penetrating his side, and an iron plate struck him violently in the abdomen. M’Eenzie, who was a married man with five children, died from his injuries. THAMES, April 18. William Bennett, aged about sixty-five, an Omahu settler, died suddenly this afternoon in the Magistrate’s Court while giving evidence in the case of Crane v. Thames County Council. The supposed cause is heart disease. John M’Dougall, while employed,in a railway truck at Lyttelton yesterday receiving timber from the steamer Eosamond, sustained a severe injury to his ankle owing to one of the slings slipping.
