AVON ROAD BOARD.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —After reading “ Watchful’s ” letter in to-day’s issue of your paper, it is evident there will be several matters for discussion at the next annual meeting, all of which are of interest to the ratepayers, and as the Boardroom will only hold between thirty and forty persons, I would suggest that the annual meeting be adjourned to the Town Hall, l apanui, either in the evening of the dgy of the annual meeting or the evening following. 1 feel sure if the Chairman and members of the Board will'use their best endeavours to carry out this suggestion it will meet with the hearty approval of a large majority of the ratepayers, many of whom are quite unable to attend in the daytime, even if the place of meeting was large enough to hold them all. The Town Hall, Papanui, would be large enough to accommodate all the ratepayers, besides which it is the most convenient place for the majority of the ratepayers to attend at I understand that the annual meeting must be held at the Board’s office, but there is, I think, no reason why it should not be adjourned to a more convenient place. , I do not know whether “ Watchful ” is a member of the Board or not, but judging by the matters referred to in it, he is either a member or else a member dictated the letter or supplied the information to the writer; but whoever the writer may be I trust he will do his best to assist in having the meeting adjourned and thus give all ratepayers a chance of expressing their views on the various matters brought forward. I would also suggest that at such meeting no ratepayer be allowed to speak-for more than fifteen minutes. I have heard of one annual meeting where one person attempted to address the meeting at least a dozen times, and perhaps we have such a person who is a ratepayer in our district, and it is against such a person monopolising our meeting that I wish to guard.—l' am, &c. FAIR PLAY. .
