CHEVIOT COACH SERVICE.
TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, —With reference to a letter which appeared in last Wednesday’s paper, signed by “ A Cheviot Settler,” in which very severe comments are passed and, I think, unfair statements are made reflecting on the coach services to Cheviot, I wish to say that in my opinion, as also the opinions of several others who have spoken to me on the subject, the criticism of your correspondent is uncalled for and unjust to the coach proprietors. The coaches are of the American waggon type, which is generally acknowledged to be the most suitable for the road, being light and strong and easy running, and are all new since the very benighted days of the big station regime to which your.;correspondent refers, .['hey are well-horsed, and the drivers are careful, civil and most obliging. The distance, some forty miles, is run very punctually in six hours, including a stoppage of one hour for lunch, which, I think you will admit, is very, fair time. On the whole, I consider, in contradiction to your correspondent “A Cheviot Settler,” that there is very little fault to be found with the services, and that they will compare very favourably with the coach services on any other road in the colony.—l am, &c., W. T. ROBINSON.
