Consequent on the refusal of the Government to accept the services of a Volunteer’ Corps at Gisborne, a number of patriotic citizens have decided to equip a company on their own account, asking the Government simply for arms, but for no capitation. \
At the inquest on James Stevenson, livery stable keeper, the jury brought in a verdict that deceased died from alcoholic poisoning, acting on a weak heart, and accelerated by a dose of carbolic acid.
