Previous to the Premier’s departure from Auckland, he was welcomed by a representative meeting of Masons. In responding to the toast of his health, Mr Seddon stated that he was an old member of the craft in which he had always taken interest. He referred to the action that he had taken during his visit to England in urging the Grand Lodge of England to recognise the New Zealand Grand Lodge. This recognition having taken place, he could not refuse the wish of the New Zealand Masons that he should assume the position of their Grand Master, as he hoped that in that position he might he able to promote the union of the different Constitutions. It would be his utmost endeavour to bring this to pass. He by mutual forbearance and practising the teaching of Masonry, that the friction.of the past few years would soon cease. - •
