MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.
The quarterly summoned meeting of the Loyal Eangiora Lodge of Oddfellows was held- on Monday evening. ' The DeputyGrand Master (Bro A. M’Lean) was present. P.P.G.M. Marshall, Past Grands W. Smith, Scudder and Bell were appointed delegates to the annual District Meeting, to be held on April 16. ’ It .was decided to apply to the District officers for' a grant of £5 from the Distress Fund for the relief of a brother, and also to increase his chronic side relief to 7s 6d per week for the present quarter. The question of establishing a Benevolent Fund in connection with the Lodge was held over-till next meeting. A vote of thanks to the Deputy-Grand Master and other visitors was passed and acknowledged., ' Two : candidates were initiated and 1 two proposed. The receipts of' the evening amounted to about .£l5O, and accounts totalling -6147 12s 8d were passed for payment. The .business being uncompleted, the meeting was . adjourned till April 13. . . i The quarterly meeting of the Resolution Division of the Sons and Daughters of Temperance,-Eangiora, was held on Monday evening, when there was a good attendance. The introduction of the system of half benefit members, both male and female, seems to have been favourably received, as five candidates had been proposed, three of whom came forward for initiation. The receipts of the evening amounted to £4O. The Loyal Leeston Lodge of Oddfellows, 1.0.0. F., M.U., held its quarterly meeting in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Leeston, on Monday evening last, when there was a good muster of members, and Bro J. Quigley presided. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, and the accumulated correspondence was read and dealt with. One new member was initiated. The Y.G. reported that there were no members on th'/sick list. Bro W. Bennett .wrote, thanking the Lodge for the sympathy and assistance it had given in the interment ef the late Bro John Bennett, and also for the prompt settlement of funeral claim. The sentiments of the evening were honoured according-to the rules of Lodge mourning. The outstanding accounts were passed; for, payment., ,It was decided/ to have the: next -Lodge night. on ; Friday, April ASt for the. purpose of receiving an official visit from the district officers and visiting brethren. Votes of thanks wete .accorded to the auditors and the trustees, and were : acknowledged - by, P.G.’s Bros Carston and-Johnston respectively. The receipts of the evening amounted to £64 Is 9d; expenditure ,£29 3s 3d. The Lodge then rose.
The quarterly meeting of the Mistletoe Lodge, No. 3, was held in the Druids’ Hall on Monday evening, when Bro Creswell presided. There was a large attendance of members and visiting brethren from the Pioneer and Anchor Lodges. The balancesheet of the Hall Committee, which was read and adopted, showed a substantial balance for the year’s lettings. Reports were received from .Bros Bailey and Dyer,
District Grand Lodge representatives, of the business transacted at the late Grand Lodge sessions. One candidate was initiated into the rites of Druidism, and it was resolved to hold the next meeting of the Lodge on Thursday, April 14. The receipts of the evening amounted to £59 0s 9d.
