RUGBY UNION,
A meeting of the committee of the Canterbury Eugby Union was held at the Clarenden Hotel yesterday afternoon; present—Messrs G. H. Mason (chairman), J. C. Adams, F. T. Evans, G. Scott, E. M. Carr, F. E. Asquith, 11. Frost, W. Walton and Captain Meikleham. A sub-committee appointed by the New Zealand Eugby Union to revise the rules, submitted the draft to the Canterbury Union. Consideration was held over. A letter was read from the Merivale Club, stating.that a match had been arranged between the championship junior teams of Invercargill and Christchurch, and an application was made to allow G. Lewis, who had been suspended until May next, to play. It was decided to adhere to, the former .decision. The Ealapoi Club wrote asking that if possible the Senior and "Junior’Flag match es’should ho played on alternate Saturdays a.t Kaiapoi. A letter from the Sydenham Borough Council, in answer to one from the Union, stated that the use of Sydenham Park and the terms could not be agreed to until it was known exactly what the Union wanted, and if there was any likelihood of Sydenham having a fair proportion of go'od matches. The matter, was hold over till the next meeting. Messrs >H. Frost, W. Macnamara and W. G. Gai’rard were elected ■ a Postponement Committee, Messrs W. Walton, T. M. Buntin; and W. G. Garrard a Permit Committee, and Messrs E. M. Carr and G. Scott, ivith . the secretary, the Competition Committee. Mr Mason brought up the question of inaugurating a competition for pupils from the State ■ schools, and suggested that a trophy should he presented by the Union to accompany the school championship. The suggestion was favourably received, and Mr Mason 'promised to try and arrange a meeting of head-masters on Saturday morning to consider the matter. It was resolved to recommend to the next general meeting that the honorariums to the secretary and the treasurer should he 20 guineas.
A match was played yesterday afternoon between teams representing ■ St Mary’s and Bnrwood, and was won by the former bv 39 points to nil. The scorers for St Mary’s were: E. Sullivan. 4, B. Flynn 3, J. Scully 2, J. Martin 2, R. Delahunty 1. M. Flynn converted J. Scully’s try. Martin at fullback played an excellent game; B. Bernard played well at half. Among the forwards, J. Scully and R. Delahunty played well, and among the backs B. Flynn. On Saturday evening the third annual general meeting of the Sheffield Football Club was held in the Brown Car Pavilion, Sheffield Domaim There was a good attendance. The report and balancesheet were adopted as read, there being a balance in hand of £1 8s 4d. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year Patron, Mr J. C. Wason, M.H.8.; president, Mr Geo. Rutherford; vicepresidents, Messrs T. Pole, R. Colthart, W. Graham, J. Walshaw and Dr Davenport; committee, Messrs T. Pole, D. M’Millan, W. Colthart, C. F. 8011, E. ,Phillips, H. M'Nae and G. Appleby; selection, committee, captain, deputycaptain and D. M’Millan; captain, W.
Colthart; deputy-captain, E. Phillips; secretary and treasurer, C. F. Bull.
