NAPIER NEWS.

[Per Press Association,] NAPIER, March 29. The Governor and Mr Seddon were enthusiastically received at Hastings to-day, and subsequently proceeded to the Waipatu Maori settlement, where tho Natives had made great preparations for their entertainment. Hundreds of Maoris assembled to do honour to the Governor. Several Native chiefs made speeches dealing with theix* grievances in x'espect to Native lauds. Lora Runfurly addressed the Maoris at some length, making an interesting speech, at the conclusion of which he was heartily cheered. Various Maori dances were given. The Governor came on to Napier to-night, and will be officially received to-morrow and entertained at luncheon. Mr Seddon will have a horero with tho Natives to-morrow, and will deliver a political speech at the Gaiety Theatre here to-morrow night. At an inquest held at Hastings on an infant daughter of Mrs Tyson, tho mother deposed that it was one of twins, and when she woke up in the morning she found it dead in bed behind her. A post-mortem examination revealed that death was duo to some irritant poison. The inquest was adjourned.
