LONDON, March 24.
The Dervish force under Mahmud comprises two thousand cavalry and. eight thousand rifles, with seven cannon. The remainder of the enemy consists of swordsmen and spearmen. Brigadier-General Lewis’s brigade has advanced upon Abadar. The Dervishes are concentrating upon Umdebia. In the attack upon the Dervish horsemen the Egyptian cavalry displayed steadiness and dash. GAIKO, Maech 24.
The Dervishes are adopting el ns rye tactics. It is believed that the main force is encamped in a thick bush thirty-miles up the Atbara River. Maech 25.
Deserters state that Mahmud is entrenched at El Hirzi,.and that he is short of food. Osman Digna is nearer -Adarema.
