NATIVE GATHERING.
[Per Press Association.! ■ AUCKLAND, March 24. There,are.at least' two thousand Maoris at present encamped at Waihi, King Mahuta’s settlement, on the opposite side of the Waikato River, from Huntly. The gathering is certainly the largest assemblage of Natives held in the colony since the memorable tangi over Tawhiao, at Taupire, ■in, 1894. Natives are' daily arriving in order to' take part in the political discussions and the inevitable feast. At present nearly all the principal tribes in New Zealand are well represented. The meeting will last forover a, week. Mr Henare Kaihau, M.H.R., at whose instance , the meeting was convened, states that the Hon R. J. Seddoii has telegraphed his intention of being present at about the end of next week in order to address the Natives. Should the Premier arrive the Natives intend to give him a great reception. The main business of the meeting has not yet been touched.
