THE WEATHER.

The nor’-wester on Monday blew with extreme force in the Hororata district. Turnips, which had in most cases been sown at least twice, and were coining away fairly well, were blown clean away. Not a straw stack was left standing, but thatched stacks of grain escaped without much injury. Several chimneys were blown down, and other damage was done. Mr Percy, of the Road Board staff, was driving a load of x 4 timber for the repair of the Selwyn Bridge, when, turning a corner the full force of the wind caught him, and he was blown off the dray. One of the timbers lifted by the wind struck him on the head, cutting him badly above the eye, and another fell upon him as he lay on the ground, breaking two of his ribs. By the fall itself he injured one of his shoulders. The gale was one of the worst that has been experienced in the district. It was followed by a heavy rain of brief duration.

A furious north-west gale was blowing throughout the western districts of midCanterbury on Monday afternoon (says our Coalgatecorrespondent). .Farmers saw vast quantities of dust flying from their best cultivated lands. Some stacks were completely overturned, and chimneys,• outbuildings and trees were blown down. There was a heavy rainfall for several hours afterwards.
