ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

[Peb Pbbss Association.]

AUCKLAND, Mabch 23,

Information has been received that a settler named Bevan, residing at Wade, has been found dead. He went out rabbitshooting at Greenhithe, and subsequently some settlers came across his dead body with his gun beside it. WELLINGTON, Mabch 23.

A little boy named Thomas Seaman fell off a horse near Masterton, and _ sustained concussion of the brain. He is not expected to live.

At about half-past seven yesterday morning, as a milkcart, belonging to Mr Hendriksen, was turning the Christchurch Meat Company’s corner from Gloucester Street into Colombo Street, a cart belonging to the Meat Company, which was passing the corner at the moment, came into violent collision with it. The horse belonging to the milk cart was thrown to the ground, with its driver on top of it, and the cart was overturned. The only damage done was to the milkcart, which had a shaft and the nave of one of the wheels smashed. When the 6.5 tram from town was. crossing the North Belt, on its way to Papanui last night, a man who had evidently been imbibing too freely made a rush for it, and endeavoured to get on whilst it was in motion. He got hold of the guard iron, but was thrown down with considerable force and dragged some distance, narrowly escaping being run over. He lay for some minutes where the tram left him, and when he was picked up it was found that, though he bad been severely shaken, he had escaped without any broken bones.

An inquest was held yesterday, at Ashburton, before Mr E. Alcorn, J.P., acting coroner, touching the death of Peter Leslie, found drowned in the Ashburton Eirer on Tuesday, through the upsetting of a dray. The jury brought-in a verdict, of accidentally drowned.
