CHRISTCHURCH. Thursday, March 17. (Before Mr R. Beefcham, S.M.) Drunkenness. —Benjamin Taggart, an old man sixty-eight; years of ago, was handed over to the authorities of the Salvation Army Home.—Daisy Dale was fined 5s or twenty-four hours’imprisonment.—Margaret Patty was convicted, discharged, and handed over to the representative of the Samaritan Homo.—Two first offenders were fined 5s each, with the alternative of twenty-four hours’ imprisonment.—lsabella Lectio, a very old offender, was sentenced to fourteen days’ imprisonment. Alleged Drunkenness. Thomas Brown, arrested for drunkenness, denied the charge, and complained of an assault by the police when in the cell of the lockup. Mr Beetham adjourned the further hearing until March 33 for the purpose of taking the evidence of the watch-house keeper. , Illegally on Premises. Richard Reeves, found by night without lawful excuse on the premises of Mr J. Troup, Manchester Street, was sentenced to fortyeight hours’ imprisonment. —T. Woods was charged with being illegally on the premises of J. Willcox, Chester Street. Accused, who appeared to be of weak mind, was remanded for seven days. Alleged Forgery. Edward Robert M’Evoy, charged with having on Oct. 2, 1897, at Christchurch, forged a cheque for the sum of A 6 12s 2d, and with having uttered the same to cno Thomas Armstrong, was remanded until March 23.
