OPPOSITION TACTICS.
DELIBERATE OBSTRUCTION.
A WASTED DAY. [From Oub Correspondent. - ] WELLINGTON. Dec. 7.
The policy of obstruction initiated by the Opposition some weeks ago still continues, and it is evident that if Parliament is to prorogue this side of Christmas, the session must necessarily be a barren one. To-morrow’s Ministerial caucus will definitely decide whether members are to be kept in Wellington over the New Year, or whether they shall be sent about them business at an early date. There will be no adjournment to enable members to inn home and return early in January if it is decided to go on, and present appearances favour the presumption that the House will only adjourn over Christmas and Boxing Days, and will sit again on Dec. 28.
Owing to their failing to extract from the Premier a distinct statement as to when the Public Works Statement would be brought down, the Opposition this afternoon set themselves to deliberately obstruct all business. The result was that the day was absolutely wasted, only an Imprest Supply Bill being passed. From .what transpired just before the House rose, between the leaders on both sides, it ‘is patent that the end of the session will show some bitter scenes.
