CYCLING.

CHRISTCHURCH CYCLING CLUB,

A meeting of the committee of the Christchurch Cycling Club was held in the rooms. Cashel Street, last evening; present —the Captain (Mr W. E, Thompson), who presided, and Messrs C. IT. Cotton, R. L. Adams, T. Clarkson, A . Harris, W. G. Williams and G. Henwood. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs J. H. Thompkins and A. Hobbs. The tender of the Christchurch Professional Band to play at the club’s race meeting, to be held on Dec. .18, was accepted. The arranging of a result board was left with the Chairman and Mr Adams. The question of limiting the number of riders to be allowed to start in the FiveMile Championship of Canterbury was considered. The Chairman stated that for this event twenty-six entries had been received, and, as it was a scratch race, the men at the start would not be distributed over the field, as was the case in handicap races. It was decided to have the race paced by multicycles, and it was expected that the pace would bo made so fast that only first-class riders could keep in the race. Owing to the large number of entries received for the various events necessitatin'l- a great number of heats, it was decided to eliminate the Spectators’ and the Officials’ races from the programme. Arrangements for pacing the Championship Race were left with Messrs S. Wilson and G. Henwood. Arshdeacon Lingard, vice-president of the club, was appointed a steward, and Mr J. Boyd as additional clerk of the course. It was decided that the first four in each heat of the New Zealand Wheel Race should qualify for the final, and the first three in the heats of the remaining events. Full arrangements were made for entertaining visiting cyclists during their stay in Christchurch. The following teams have been selected to play in the polo match on bicycles, to be decided at the Christchurch Cycling Club’s Gymkhana on Christmas Day:— W. G. Williams, C. Hulston, W. E. Thompson, A. Harris and A., Holmes versus J. H. Tompkins, E. J. Lilly, A, Hobbs, Denby and W. Clarkson. CYCLISTS’ ALLIANCE. At the weekly meeting of the executive of the New Zealand Cyclists’ Alliance on Monday night, a permit was granted to the Auckland United Friendly Societies to include cycle events on their programme for Jan. 29, under Alliance rules. Special permission was granted to Alliance members to compete in the cycle competitions at the floral fete at Christchurch on Dec. 16.
