COLONIAL PEEM3EES. [Per Press Association.] LONDON, June 4 The contingents of Australian troops by the Orotava have landed. They proceeded by train to St Pancraa Station, where they were met by Mr Baillie Hamilton, of the Col onial Office. The drum and fife, band of the Scot# Guards also was at the station, and. played a match to the Chelsea Barracks. The coloilials were greeted with much cheering en route. A detachment of the South Africa Chartered Company’s police baa arrived to take part in the Jubilee celebrations. A suggestion has been made that the Government should mark the Record Reign by releasing the Irish dynamiters, but Mr Gerald Balfour is not disposed to fall iu with the suggestion. CAPETOWN, JUNK 4. Sir Gordon Sprigg, the Premier, has left for London to attend the Jubilee festivities. Both Houses of Parliament adjourned in order to bid him farewell. OTTAWA, June 4. Mr Laurier, the Premier, has started for London to take part in the Jubilee. Immense enthusiasm prevailed in Ottawa on his departure. AUCKLAND, Jtnsx 5. A meeting was held at the Chamber of Commerce for the purpose of considering a proposal to erect a statue of the Queen in Auckland to commemorate the Record Reign. Mr B. Kent, president of th* Chamber, presided. After a general discussion, it was suggested that the children attending the public schools and th# women of Auckland should be appealed to.’ It was {stated that a statue could bft obtained from 22550 up to .£IOOO. t The meeting adjourned till Tuesday, , WELLINGTON, Jtms S. The School Committees Association rejected a proposal to have a procession of children through the town, and to roast an ox whole in the Basin Reserve. The children will simply assemble there, and have some sports. ' PUBLIC MEETING AT KAIAPOL On Friday evening a public meeting wa* held ill the Kaiapoi Oddfellows’ Hall, to eon-, sider the celebration of the Queen’s Jubilee. The Mayor presided, and there was an. attendance of about 100, including several ladies. Mr J. L. Wilson proposed-—" That the Borough Council be thanked for calling the meeting.” This was seconded by Mr Andrew Johnson and carried unanimously. Councillor Simpson proposed —“ That this meeting desires to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee in Kaiapoi by holding a procession consisting of all the local societies, dubs, traces and institutions, the same to be marshalled at the drill-shed and marched through the town to the Kaiapoi Park, where a popular programme of sports should be carried but, a .citizens’ ball to be held' in the ■ evening,,, and other amusements to be decided by the committee.” Mr Parker seconded the motion, which was unanimously agreed. to. Mr Moore, M.H.E., moved—“ That the celebration day be Monday, June ,21.” • This was seconded by Councillor Blakely and carried unanimously. A general committee, consisting of three members from each of the local bodies, was appointed to act with the Council to carry out the details, to meet at 7.30 p.m. on Monday, in the Oddfellows’ Hall. Mr J. L, Wilson was elected permanent secretary and Mr W. Parnham treasurer, the Mayor to be chairman. A public meeting was held at Ashburton on Friday night to take into consideration the best way of of celebrating the Queen’s Record Reign. A strong committee was formed to carry out a programme, which will probably consist of a daylight procession through the town and a display of fireworks in the evening. The Mayor of Christchurch has convened a meeting of representatives of the various trades, for the City Council Chambers at 7.30 this evening, to discuss the question of taking part in the Record Reign procession. At a meeting of non-commissioned volunteer officers, the question of holding sports in connection with the Record Reign celebrations on June 22 was discussed, and there is every probability that the necessary arrangements will be made.
