AQUATIC.

THE AMATEUR DEFINITION. [Per Press Association.] MELBOURNE, April 24. Recently the New South Wales Rowing Association wrote to the Victorian Rowing Association that unless the latter complied with the amateur definition adopted by the Sydney conference last year, the New South Wales crew would not compete at the forthcoming intercolonial eight-oared contest. It was decided to require a month's notice to make an alteration in the rules to bring them in conformity with the conference definition. Pending another meeting to consider the amateur question, it was hoped that New South VTales would not withdraw from the contest. SYDNEY, April 25.

In consequence of the stand taken by the Victorian Rowing Association on the amateur question, the New South Wales Association has decided not to compete at the forthcoming international eight-oared contest in Melbourne. The crew picked will cease training.
