FOOTBALL.
CANTERBURY RUGBY UNION. A monthly general meeting of the committee of tho Canterbury Rugby Union Avas held yesterday evening, at the Clarendon Hotel; present—Messrs J. C. Adams (chairman), J. U. Collins, T. M. Buntin, H. Frost, F. T. Evans, W. Walton, W. G. Garrard (honorary secretary) and F. E. Asquith (honorary treasurer). A. telegram aud a letter from tho honorary Secretary of the Ngav Zealand Rugby Union, stating that the English Union had reversed the decision of the Appeal Committee of the New Zealand Union regarding the disputed try in tho last Otago match, were read. It was resolved to apply t 6 the Noav Zealand Union for copies of all documents bearing on the case. Permission Avas granted to the Sydenham Club to play Melrose at Easter, and to tho Christchurch Club to play the Wellington Club at tho same time. Mr George Harris Avroto regretting that ho Avould bo unable to accept the position of vice-president. The East Christchurch Club wrote regarding a claim against tho Union for .£l, and it Avas agreed to let the question stand over for fuller particulars. Tho Kaiapoi Club asked for further expenses in connection with the interprovincial fixtures last year, but it Avas decided to let the matter stand in abeyance for tho present. Tho Secretary read a letter from the Sydenham Borough Council with reference to the uso of Sydenham Park, aud this matter Avas also ordered to stand over. It was agreed that entries for all competitions must be forwarded to the Secretary by Monday, April 5. Messrs Garrard, Frost and Buntin Avero appointed a Selection Committee, and Messrs Garrard, Buntin aud Walton a PermitG Committee. The Secretary Avas instructed to Avrite to the management of the Lancaster Park Company, asking for better terms during the incoming season, The sum of .£ls Avas voted from the Union’s funds to the Secretary and Treasurer for the valuable services they had rendered the Union last season. NE W BRIGHTON CLUB. The annual general meeting of the New Brighton Football Club Avas held last evening in the clubrooms, Noav Brighton, when about fifty members Avcre present. The election of officers resulted as lolloavs : President, Mr G. MTntyre; vice-presi-dents, Messrs R. C. Bishop, A. W. Owles, W. J. Byrne, H. W. Bishop, J. Henderson, H. D. Pine, T. Lyons, J. Patterson, H, Batchelor, J. Morrison, C. Curtis and A, H. Wyatt; captain, Air E. J, Poster; vice-captain, Mr W. Phillips; honorary secretary, Mr H. Foster; treasurer, Mr M. Patrick; delegate to the Rugby Union, Air F. CoAvper; committee, Messrs A. Thompson, G. Glover, R. Bickerton, G. Lester and C. Curtis; selection committee, Messrs Curtis and Lester. Nine new members were elected. It Avas decided to enter a team for the President’s Cup competition. The opening day Avas fixed for Saturday, April 3. The subscription was fixed at 2s Gd for the season, Avith the use of the rooms. A vote of thanks to the Chairman and the retiring officers terminated the meeting.
