The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s steamer Aotea arrived in port yesterday morning. She will complete her loading at this port for London. During the forenoon the barque Akaroa was taken alongside for the purpose of transhipping the produce she has on board to the direct liner.

The New: Zealand Shipping Company’s chartered barque Lake Erie is expected to sail to-morrow for London with a full cargo of wool, &c. > The steamship Tekoa, of the New Zealand Shipping Company’s fleet, arrived in port yesterday morning from Waitara. . The Union, Steamship Company’s steamer Eakanoa arrived in port yesterday forenoon from Newcastle. She left the New South Wales port on March 18 and spoke the barque Asia on the following day. Messrs Arkell and Douglas, under date of Feb. 27, report : —“ Since our last advices the condition of the market has not altered, but all rates have firmed as far as sail trades are concerned. There is a considerable demand for long-voyage tonnage, inquiries being extended by the South African, Australian and New Zealand lines for general cargo vessels, but we quote freight rates as follows: —Auckland, Dunedin and Lyttelton, 20 cents; Wellington, 22 cents. The Grace Deering com-_ pletes her loading for Auckland in the* next few days. It is uncertain whether a prompt charter, vi& southern ports, may follow, or whether, after an interval of about a month, an attempt will be made to load a succeeding despatch to Auckland as the first port.
