A MATTER FOR RETRENCHMENT.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— Seeing a man this morning, at 7.30. going home as drunk as a lord, as the say- ~ ing is, and having seen the same man for many days past in the same condition, it struck me as advisable to have a wooden policeman fixed at ■ sundry comers of the road. In that case a drunken man’might come in contact with them, which he is hot likely to with our dandy policeman. It certainly would be a great saving and quite as efficient. —I am, &c., A DISGUSTED RESIDENT OP PAPANUI* "
