LYTTELTON. Lyttelton is situated in lat, 43.37 south Jong. 172.44 east; and the difference of time between Lyttelton and Christchurch is 20sec. The time-ball is dropped every week day at 1 p.m.. New Zealand mean time, which is equivalent to 13.30 Greenwich mean time of the previous day, being calculated for 172 deg 30min east long., and llhrs 30min east of Greenwich mean time.

The direct liner Duke of Sutherland arrived in Port yesterday morning from Albany, West Australia, where she called for orders. The steamer was placed in the graving dock forthwith fox’ the purpose of being cleaned and painted. When this work is completed she will load a quantity of frozen meat, &c., at this port, and then proceed to Tixnaru and Dunedin. The brig Edward arrived from Edithberg yesterday morning with a cargo of salt. From this port she will load produce for Greymouth, and proceed thence to Melbourne with timber, under charter to Messrs Pitcaith.lv, Wallace and Co. The barque Firth of Forth sailed yesterday for Newcastle in ballast. The E.M.S.S. Gothic sailed yesterday afternoon for Port Chalmers, where she will Toad a portion of her outward freight, and proceeds thence to Wellington, her final port of departure. From inquiries made on board, it was ascertained that Captain Kidley, who met with an accident the previous evening, had passed a rather restless night, but that his injuries were not so Serious as at first supposed. It was not then known if any bones, were broken, TIMAET7. The barque Ganymede was towed out at 6 a.m. yesterday, for Cape Town, with a cargo of 9000 odd sacks of oats and some preserved meats. She took two passengers, TVTiag M’Donald and Mr L. Innes. The s.s. Brunner arrived from Westport and way ports in the morning, with coal and stores to land, and went south in the afternoon.
