PAPANUI SCHOOL TREAT.
j TO the editor. j Sir, —Many schools have taken advauj tage of excursion fares, and have gone J to Little River, WekaPass and other places I quite fresh to the children. But the f Papanui district school could not do likeS wise, for the children of that school were j taken, as a great treat, all the way to [Sumner! There they must have had a { very enjoyable time. The teachers tried { to do their best by walking off together and giving the children a wide berth. Of i course, no games, races, or amusement of | any kind were got up for the scholars. The poor little urchins had to amuse themt selves as they best could. A few, enjoyed ! themselves in the swing boats, but as they I followed their, teachers’ example and [ thought of no one else, the majority were | deprived of that pleasure. Again, it was too cold for paddling, and there were no [ lollies, no racing and no toys, and even the I donkey rides the children had to pay themselves.—l am, Ac., *A FRIEND OF THE CHILDREN.
