SWIMMING.
The committee of the Eichmoud Amateur Swimming Club met in the schoolroom on Friday night; present Messrs 11. L. Armitage, W. Simpson, E. J. Pauli, L. D. Armitago, K. Bassett, A. B. Truscott, G. Van der Velden and G. Milne. Fifteen new members were elected. Messrs W. Bassett, W. Van der Velden and J. L. Northey were selected to represent the club in the Plunge Championship of New Zealand to be decided at the club’s annual race meeting on Saturday next. The offer of the lady members to provide afternoon tea for officers and competitors at the race meeting was accepted with thanks. The honorary Secretary reported that he had received entries from the Auckland, Christchurch, East Christchurch, Eailway, Lyttelton, Sydenham and New Brighton Chibs, and that Mr E. Thomas, of Auckland, would compete in the Plunge Championship. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Messrs T. Bassett, S. K. Bassett, W. Bassett, K. Bassett, H. D. Eoss, E. C. Bishop, G. H. Wright, G. Milne, E. J .Paul], James Trent, H. J. C. Jekyll, W.Eeese and G. and C. H. Jones for donations and prizes. A meeting of the New Brighton Amateur Swimming Club was held hi the Eovers’ camp on Saturday night, the business being in connection with the proposal to hold a race on the Avon. On the motion of Mr Truscott it was decided to hold a 50yds Club Handicap on Thursday night. The question of securing the Richmond Bath for a club meeting was deferred. Several new members were proposed, and the committee will make special effort to close the season suitably, also to form a special class for instruction in life-saving and the Silvester method of treatment of rescued persons.
