CRICKET.

- ■■■" SENIOR CUE. : MIDLAND ELEVEN v. SYDENHAM AND ADDINGTON THIRTEEN. The Sydenham and Addington, who had lost four wickets for 171 runs, continued their first innings. The wicket was inclined to bump, and as Stephenson was bowling well the remainder of the suburban team made an exceedingly poor display, with the result that when the last wicket fell the score had been increased by only 26 runs. However the total of 197 was too much for the Midlanders, who could not make more than 107 runs in their second innings, and therefore were beaten by an innings and 36 runs. D. Reese gave a really fine display of free batting for 37, while Wheatley, Pearce, T. W. Reese and De Mans got into double figures. With the exception of the first-named, however, none of the batsmen appeared at home to M’Murray, who secured eight wickets for 41 runs. The following are the scores : SYDENHAM AND ADDINGTON. UNITED ELEVEN v. UNITED THIRTEEN. With four wickets down for 86 runs the United Elevcnlcontinued their first innings. Gard’ner, however, was absent, and the others, with the exception of R. D. Harman, made a comparatively poor stand against the bowling of Rolleston, and the last wicket fell with the score at 131. The Thirteen, thanks to a capital display of free batting by Rolleston, who made no less than 71, and a nice innings of 25 by Vincent, made 173 in their second innings thus leaving the Eleven with 206 runs to get to win. In their attempt to hit off the runs the latter, in a rather treacherous light, commenced badly, as Sims was bowled almost immediately. R. D. and T D. Harman, however, by patient cricket, kept their wickets up, arid when time was called the score stood at 38 runs for one wicket. The following are the scores : UNITED eleven. First Innings. J. The match, between the Lancaster Park Eleven and the Lancaster Park Thirteen was concluded at Lancaster Park on Saturday. At the commencement of the play the eleven, who were in a minority of 40 on the first innings, had lost four wickets for 171 runs in their second. This total they increased to 254 runs before the last wicket fell. H. C. Ridley successfully defied the efforts of all the bowlers and carried out his bat for 97. He gave a couple of difficult chances, otherwise his innings was a splendid exhibition of batting, and bad it not been for the fact that the Eleven’s innings was shortened by the absence of Fowke he would probably have passed the century. The Thirteen, requiring 215 runs to win, only succeeded in making 116, and, therefore, were beaten by 98 runs. Willis made 51 in good style before he was run out, and Labatt played patiently for 24, but North’s fast bowling was much too good for the remaining batsmen. The fielding, of both teams was moderate.
