INQUEST.
THE OXFORD TRAGEDY. An inquiry, touching the death of Joseph Burechek, was held on Wednesday at the Harewood Hotel, West Oxford, before Mr John Ingram, J.P., and a jury of whom Mr Hugh Campbell was chosen foreman. It came out in evidence that the deceased had been living for some years at the Emigration Barracks, and was in receipt of charitable aid. The deceased was a very old man, and was of a highly excitable nature. On Mr Parish, who (represents the Charitable Aid Board, informing him that he intended to give shelter to another family in the same building, the old man got into a frightful rage and threatened to destroy himself, a threat which had been uttered before and consequently taken no notice of. However, the old man was found han°*inp' by a piece of twisted flax to a tree°at °tho foot of Starvation Hill, a distance of about a mile from his home. The conversation with Mr Parish took place at 5 p.m. on Monday, and the deceased was discovered hangiag at 8.30 a.m. on Tuesday. The jury returned a verdict of “ Suicide by hanging whilst temporarily insane.”
