BAPTIST UNION.
[Per Prkss Association.! AUCKLAND, Xov. 5. At a meeting of the New Zealand baptist Union to-day, the Rev W. L. Salter, of Cavershaiu, formerly a Wesleyan Methodist, was welcomed into the Union as a minister of the denomination. The Eev Allan Poole, of South Dunedin, was elected a ministerial member of the Union. A resolution of sympathy with the Armenians was jiassed. 'The reports of district Associations were then presented to the Assembly, The report of the Canterbury Association showed that active 1 operations had been carried on for the extension of the denomination in that province. The report of a sub-committee appointed last year to draw up some scheme for providing annuities to aged or disabled ministers, was presented. Ultimately it was resolved to appoint a small committee to consider the report and present recommendations based thereon to the Assembly. The Treasurer presented the annual balance sheet : —Receipts -£272, disbursements .£356, balance due National bank disk The year’s income exceeded that \jf 1695 by ICO7, mainly due to the President's tour to churches throughout the colony. The expenditure was JM.IS in excess of last year, arising from extra, assistance rendered (o various churches. The deficit of .£B4 arose from special expenditure not likely to occur again. The report was adopted. The Finance Committee reported that the expenditure of the ensuing year was likely to be fully met by the usual methods and by increased membership. It recommended that a special appeal be made to all churches of the Union to clear off iM.4 overdraft, if possible, before the close of 1896“ For this object the sum of .£34 was promised in the room.
