Messrs Pitcaithly, Wallace and Co. have chartered the brigantine Garin to proceed to Kaipara to load for Sydney. TIMARU. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s steamer Mataura arrived from Lyttelton about midday on Wednesday, but as a half gale was blowing and a sea running, the harbour-master anchored her outside till yesterday morning, when she was brought in and worked. She had equal to 9000 carcases to take in, and some wool, pelts, &c., and would not finish till late at night or this morning. TELEGRAPH NOTICE BOARD. Tongariro, from London via way ports, at 6.30 a.m. After landing passengers and taking in coal she goes on to Auckland, nearly all her cargo being for that port. On the voyage across the Southern Ocean the Tongariro sighted a large number of icebergs, and for four days the steamer was passing between large bergs and loose ice, one hundred and nineteen bergs being sighted in one day. The weather during this time kept fine and clear. She brings 16u0 tons of cargo and 203 passengers for all ports.
