INQUEST.

An inquest on the body of George Everett, who died at the hospital on Sunday morning, was held at the hospital yesterday, before Mr E. Beetham, coroner, Hr J. Gilbert being foreman of the jury. Sergeant-Major Mason conducted the case on behalf of the police. Dr Fox gave evidence to the effect that deceased was received into the hospital badly bruised, but progressed favourably till Saturday. From a post-mortem examination he found that death resulted from hemorrhage, consequent on the rupture of a blood-vessel in the chest. Alexander Merritt, tram guard, and J, K. Little and Michael Hart gave evidence as to the man getting off the tram the wrong way, and being rolled over by the step of the next car. The jury returned a verdict of “ Accidentally killed by jumping off the tram while in motion," and added a rider to the effect that no blame was attachable to anyone.
