BOROUGH COUNCILS.

ST ALBAN'S. A meeting of the St Albans Borough Council was held last night; present—-The Mayor (Mr F. Waymouth) and Councillors C. F. Money, Keig - , Million, Cook, Neate, Charlcwood and Morgan. Leave of absence was granted to Councillor Glass. The report of the Finance Committee was read, showing receipts £442 11s 7d. Tire pay-sheet amounted to .£5Ol 3s Sd, and tho debit balance was A 362 2s Sd. Councillor Morgan asked for an expression of opinion from the Council as to the question of, equal representation on the Dairy Conference. On tho motion of Councillor Charlewood, seconded by Councillor Neats, it was resolved that’ the delegates should be empowered to- insist - on equal representation on any body that might be constituted to control the milk supply. Councillor .Morgan and the Mayor were appointed delegates to the Milk Conference. The Works Committee reported that, as the winter was over, it was of opinion that the whole matter of street crossings should be deferred and referred to the incoming Works Committee. The Surveyor had inspected the property adjoining the gravel pit, and had authorised tho work of repairing the division fence, the owner paying half the cost. The report was adopted. On .the recommendation of tho Lighting Committee the request for the erection of p. lamp on Webb Street was deferred for the present. A number of complaints a,gainst the night-soil contractor were referred to the Sanitary Committee to deal with. 'in:e oiler of the Drainage Board of A3O towards putting in pipes and filling in a drain on the North Belt between Madras and Barbadoes -Streets was accepted. * The Bank of Now Zealand and the liquidators of the Colonial Bank made an offer to transfer to the Council the Carlton mill-race, for the purpose of widening and improving the Carlton Mill Eoad from the Junction of the race with tho river to the first bend, on condition that the Council formed it into a road for the imhlic and fenced the remaining land belonging to the bank.

On the motion of Councillor Mill ton, seconded by Councillor Money, the offer was accepted. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the retiring Councillors, Messrs Money and Million, for their services in the past.
