[Per Press Association.] MELBOURNE, April 4. The Amalgamated Miners’ Association asked the Premier to establish a Conciliation Board. Mr Turner said that it would be useless to encumber the Statute Book with an Act which would break down on the first time of application. He promised, however, to investigate the New Zealand and South Australian Acts, and see whether he could draft a Bill on their lines. THE NEWCASTLE MINERS. SYDNEY, April 5. At a meeting of the Seapit miners, it was decided‘not to give notice of strike. This decision will probably have an important bearing on the general strike by deciding the action of several other wavering Lodges. TRADE AND LABOUR CONFERENCE. INVERCARGILL, April 3. The Trades and Labour- Conference was opened this morning, delegates being present from the chief towns of the colony. The subjects for consideration include gumdiggers’ and tailors’ grievances, sweating in the dressmaking trade, municipal franchise extension, old age pensions, federation of trade councils, the election of a labour member for each centre, the establishment of State tailoring workshops, undesirable immigrants, masters and apprentices legislation, and private benefit societies. A motion of sympathy with 'the widows and orphans at Brunnerton was passed, and the conference adjourned till Tuesday morning.
