S there are many rumours afloat with refer. once to the above, all void of truth, wo ould like the public to know the true facts Of the case, which are as follows When we found that the members of the Federated Bootmakers’ Union and the Boot Manufacturers’ Association, could not agree at their late Conference we anticipated trouble, and as we were not consulted in the matter, hut would have had to agree with whatever they liked to Impose on ns, we held a conference with our men without con- - suiting the Union—(this is where the shoe pinches) —and we agreed that'for the next nine yeuswo ( would stick together, the men to receive wages ranging from £i to .€3 per week,; thus avoiding all strikes or lockouts with us for the nest nine years, and the Union object to it. . Agreements, were drawn up and stamped and signed by all parties concerned. The men are perfectly satisfied, and so tire we. When the Union heard of these agreements, they called the menout on strike and only two re ponded, and when they found the remainder would not go out they started bombarding the town with handhills, and, in consequence, a crowd fathered Murid our premises, our customers were insulted, sjonuß thrown, windows broken, and generally the croviij behaved in a most disgraceful manner. , ; V Of course, the Union will deny having done these t'hings, hut we contend that they were the inis tig atoi'S,i and are, in consequence, morally responsible for.thS rowdyism, bad language, and bootings which todk place on Saturday night, ... For the benefit of the public, our factory will he open for inspection for the next three months, aM anybody feeling an interest therein will be shown ovei 1 the building and the working explained bydsie of the ton ; , . If those ladies and gentlemen who were in timidated or insulted on Saturday night outside oiir premises will kindly send ns their names aiid addresses, or will favour us with a visit, we shall fed obliged to them. ... ..v,' A reward of 132 will he paid by us to anybody who will give 'such information as may lead to the conviction of the person or persons who threw ; the atones outside our premises, thereby hitting a lady on the head and breaking panes of glass.; " g. 1661 ' . 1 MAINE BEOS,, L. wV Appleby, Mrs C.
