[Special to Press Association.] THE NEW SOUTH WALES ELECTIONS. SYDNEY. Jult 16. Mr Sleath, the only nominee for Wilcannia, has been elected unopposed, Mr Reid opened the campaign in the King electorate, and met with an enthusiastic reception. Sir H. Partes has issued a manifesto which chiefly consists of a bitter attack on Mr Reid and hia policy. Ha mates an appeal on behalf of federation, which he claims as true freetrado. He strongly advocates local government and a proper system to pat an end to the vexed unemployed difficulty. ' - Mr W. J. Ferguason, a Labour caodi- * date, has been returned unopposed for the Sturt seat. THE ST ALBANS LOTTERY. The drawing of the St Albans lottery is expected to take place in two months. SYDNEY SHEEP SALES. It ia unlikely that many of the sheep brought over from New Zealand for sale will return, as the bulk of those withdrawn are being forwarded to boiling-down establishments. ROYAL HUMANE SOCIETY’S MEDALS MELBOURNE, Jult 16. Kendall, steward of the ' Wairarapa, Welby, Earl, Fisher and John Fraser, of Dunedin, have been awarded the silver medals of the Royal Humane Society.
A STATE BANK SCHEME. ADELAIDE, July 16. The State Advances Bill provides that Government shall take over the, busimns and funds of the Savings Bank. The present trustees will be replaced -by five created under the new Bill* In place of half, as previously, they will be allowed to advance, twe-fifthi of the entire funds on mortgage, and another fcwo-fiftha on invested securities guaranteed by Government or Municipal bodies. The remaining fifth will be re* 1 tained in cash. The total advance# are not to exceed £3,000.000. Advances on the security of land are not to exceed hall the unimproved Value. Special sanction will have to be obtained for any loan qvei £IOOO. The Bill prohibits the issue of notes by any private bank after March 18, 1896, when the Savings Bank will take charge of the issue of notes, which will be a first charge on the revenue and Treasury Bills created under the Act.
