THE NEW ZEALAND ASSOCIATION. A meeting of tho General Committee of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held at the City Hotel last evening; present—Mr F. Wilding (in the chair), Messrs D. Wood, J. C. Cusack (Canterbury), W. J. Moir (Auckland),?. Selig (Hawke’s Bay), B. H. Ferguson (Wanganui), E. B. Webb (honorary treasurer) and L. A. In reference to the application of the Cambridge West Club, the Secretary read a letter from the Waipa Club, objecting to the Cambridge Club joining the Association on the ground that there were too many athletic clubs in the district. The three clubs were affiliated to the Association. The Secretary said the Invercargill Cycling Club had decided to alter the name of the club to the Invercargill Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club, and intended applying for affiliation at a future meeting. Tho Secretary reported that a sub-com-mittee had waited upon the executive of the Cyclists’ Alliance, to consider matters in connection with a combined athletic and cycling Australasian championship meeting. The following report had been drawn up:—The meeting to be held under the joint control of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association and New Zealand Cyclists’ Alliance. The hotel expenses of any competitors that may be specially selected to be charged to the meeting—the cyclists from Dec. 27 and the athletic men from Doc. 29 until Jan. 4, both days inclusive. Entertaining to be outside the meeting. Any profit to be equally divided, likewise any less. These recommendations had not been passed by the Cyclists’ Alliance. The report was adopted, subject to the approval of the Cyoliste’ Alliance. The New Zealand record for tho 440yds Hurdles was awarded to Mr T. Roberts, Auckland, and the time was fixed at Glaec,
The Secretary of tho South Canterbury Club wrote asking if one of its members, who won a prize value £6 at the Club’s sports in May last, could devote the money towards the cost of a bicycle, such bicycle to be properly engraved. Mr Cuff said he had received a similar letter from the Waipa Club. The committee resolved that the men should be allowed to purchase bicycles with their prize-money, but must not dispose of them without the consent of the Association.
A circular was received from the proprietors of the A. L. Baird Automatic Judging-machine for use in sprint running and other athletic events, and giving particulars of the machine. It was decided to write to the proprietors asking them if they would give the machine a trial at the Australasian Championship Meeting.
