Staples, an accountant, has failed, with liabilities amounting to £271,000. The assets are set down at .£243,000, FEDERAL BANK. The Supreme Court has sanctioned the collection of the whole unpaid capital of £240,000 of the Federal Bank of Australia. The outstanding liability is 30s per share, which will bo called up in twelve monthly instalments of half a crewn. SHODISt. Owing to a quantity of shoddy woollen goods being introduced into the market, the Premier has announced his intention to legislate to compel manufacturers to make goods pure, or if mixed to stamp the name of the ingredients on them. SMALL-POX. ADELAIDE, July 11. The Lusitania’s small-pox oases were landed at Colombo, and there has been no further outbreak. ELECTORAL. The Government has given notice of its intention to introduce a Bill reducing the qualification of electors for members of the Legislative Council. PETROLEUM. A strong syndicate has been formed to test the alleged discovery of petroleum on the Victorian boundary. The report states that the samples of bitumen proved highly satisfactory. NEGATIVED. HOBART, July 11. The motion concerning the appointment of a commandant was regarded by the Government as a censure motion, and was negatived by 18 to 11.
